Privacy Policy for Afro-Carib Eats

Afro-Carib Eats ("the App") helps users find African and Caribbean restaurants near them. This policy explains what data the App collects and how it's used.

Information We Collect

Location. With your permission, the App accesses your device's location to search for restaurants near you. Your location is sent to Google's Places API solely to perform that search.

Search input. If you type a city or address instead of using your location, that text is sent to Google's Geocoding API to convert it into a location for search.

Account information. If you choose to sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple, we store your name, email address, and profile photo (as provided by that sign-in method) to identify you within the App — for example, as the author of a review.

User content. If you write a review or upload a photo/video, that content is stored and shown to other users of the App, along with your display name.

Device/usage data. Every device is assigned an anonymous identifier so we can measure how the App is used (searches performed, restaurants viewed, app opens) even before you sign in. If you're signed in, this usage data is also linked to your account. This is used only to understand and improve the App — not shared with advertisers.

Blocking and reports. If you block another user or report content, we store that action (who you blocked, or what you reported and why) to enforce it and review reports.

How We Store Data

We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, and Storage) to store account info, reviews, media, and usage data. We don't operate our own servers. Firebase's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Third-Party Services

  • Google Places API / Geocoding API — restaurant search and location data.
  • Google Firebase — accounts, reviews, photo/video storage, and usage analytics.
  • Google Sign-In / Sign in with Apple — authentication, if you choose to sign in.
  • DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub — if you tap "Order Pickup/Delivery," you're taken to that platform's app or website, governed by their own privacy policy.

Your Choices

  • You can use the App's search features without signing in.
  • You can delete your account at any time from the Account screen in the App — this permanently removes your profile, reviews, and uploaded photos/videos.
  • You can block other users and report content directly within the App.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this same URL.
